So, this post is overdue but Brian and I (and Chase) ventured to the Greek Festival in Roanoke for the first time and I thought of my friend Laurie and how she and my friend Cristen used to live together and quote "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" all the time. "He don't eat NO MEAT!" "Is he good Greek boy?" and my personal favorite... "Why you want to leeeeave me?"
I think if Laurie and Matt and little Joey were here, they would have enjoyed the festivities. So Laurie, if you read this, this one's for you! I miss you!

Bottom Creek Gorge
Krisha and I dropped off Chase with the grandparents and headed for the trail. Destination: Bottom Creek Gorge owned by the Nature Conservatory, located on Bent Mountain, 45 min southwest of Roanoke. This is a neat place...there are old cemeteries, dilapidated cabins from the 1800s, a 200 ft waterfall, and about 6 miles of trail. Wildlife abounds as evidenced by the seven bounding whitetail deer and two turkeys (three if you count me) we observed.
Of the two cemeteries in the area, we found one. There were 4 grave stones and only one with a full name, Emily Hall, wife of R.W. Hall, born Feb 7, 1855, died Mar 17, 1930. Seventy-five years old, which was quite a ripe age for the time. Krisha and I were curious whether Emily would have felt the impact of the Great Depression, or maybe life was just as tough living on the side of a mountain in Appalachia. Makes you wonder.

For the love of a hub
This one is for hubby! I love you so much and you are such a great dad! I enjoyed our date eating Japanese by the sunset (You Maki Me Crazy!) and our date at the Chocolate Factory. (I always wanted my very own chocolate gorilla.) And even though Fay came and blew away my love memento in the sand, it was fun while it lasted (all 20 seconds).
Cheers to more married memories! And more Miso soup for that matter!

Sandy diapers
Chase ventured to Corolla, NC (for the second time this summer) and enjoyed time with Grandma & Grandpa Whited. Check out his surfer dude outfit. He might've blown some kisses and given some winks to the other beach babes.
These pictures are particularly funny b/c: a) I chose the swim trunks rather than the baby speedo.. why they give speedo as an option, not real sure. Where are we France? and b) Notice where Gilligan landed. He wasn't too fond of putting his feet in the waves, but if he sat on his deserted island (a.k.a daddy), he might as well have had a pina colada with an umbrella straw.
